My Brother Nigel

Created by Yvonne 8 years ago
Nigel was born in his own bedroom in Lynton Avenue, Colindale to the late Doreen and William (Bill) Read). His Big Sister Yvonne was with him just 3 hours after he was born and was at his side when he departed.
Nigel grew up in a very loving and caring family with his Nan next door.
Sadly both his parents are deceased; Mother died in June 2011 and Father died in May 2013.

He was for a time a member of the local Boys Brigade Company (4th Hendon) based at the church across the road. While in the junior section his Dad would volunteer to go to the weeks camp with him and the group at Sheringham each year.
He went on to ply the bugle in the band.

Nigel was an ardent Chelsea football fan for many a year and traveled extensively with them and even going aboard.
His other passion came to the front when he joined March Cricket Club and took on being the Hospitality Manager and running the cricket for the young people.

He attended Colindale Primary School and then went onto Edgware Secondary School.
On leaving school he did an apprenticeship with Perry's at Finchley and passed with flying colours. But there was to be no job at the end so Nigel enrolled into the Army and did his basic training and was then attached to The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery; which at that time was based at St Johns Wood.
During his time in the Troop he meet all the Royal Family and his favourite was the Queen Mother.
He was privileged to take part in the Royal Tournaments at Earls Court and the Cenotaph.
Not to mention the firing of the Royal Salutes in Hyde Park.

When he came out of the Army he went to work for Parcel force at Cricklewood depot and was a great asset to the team.

To do away with the commute to Cricklewood each day Nigel joined Wincanton's as a Distribution Manager and ended up running 4 depots for the Co-Op.
Devotion to his staff was his first and last priory often working long hours to cover for them.

It was while he was at Parcel Force he moved out of the Family home to March in Cambridgeshire and meet his Wife Lea; who worked along side him at the Cricket Club.
As she was in the Travel industry they enjoyed many holidays abroad.
Sadly things did not work out and they divorced.

Nigel moved back to the family home in the autumn of 2012 and with the help of his late Father got his life back on track.

He never forgot who his friends were and always tried to stand by them; even if it meant giving up part of the family home to accommodate them.

He will be sadly missed by his Niece Vicke, Nephew Robert and his great Nephews Mylo and Keyan not to mention his Big Sister Yvonne and all the family.
He was due to be an Usher at Robert's Wedding this July and his absence will be felt greatly.

As a family we were blessed to have such a great Son; Brother; Cousin and Uncle.

God Bless you Nigel you and thank you for sharing your life with all around you xxxx
